Te Tūranga | About the Role
The Senior Data Platform Engineer is a key technical leadership role within the Data Team, part of Silver Fern Farms’ wider Transformation & Technology Group.
Silver Fern Farms is delivering a major digital transformation, part of which has seen us deliver a new cloud-based Modern Data Platform to replace legacy on-premise solutions.
In this role, you will leverage this platform, and combine hands-on data engineering with technical leadership and people development. You’ll design, build, and maintain scalable data solutions using Databricks and the Microsoft ecosystem, while actively upskilling and mentoring junior engineers; a critical capability of this position.

This position can be based from either our Dunedin, Auckland, or Christchurch Hubs – our team is split across Christchurch and Dunedin currently.
Ōu Pūkenga | About You
You are a senior, hands-on data engineer who enjoys both building platforms and developing people.
You bring:
- Proven experience in a senior BI, data, or software engineering role
- Strong hands-on experience with Databricks and Microsoft Azure, or any other major cloud platform (Snowflake, AWS, GCP or Fabric)
- Experience with CI/CD via Azure DevOps or GitHub, and IaC via Bicep or Terraform is desirable
- Advanced data modelling capability (relational, dimensional, analytical)
- Strong programming skills (e.g. Python, SQL, Spark)
- Experience supporting enterprise-scale data platforms and services
Most importantly, you are passionate about coaching, mentoring, and growing others, can explain complex technical concepts clearly and practically.
